Fragrance - The invisible connect

Tring Tring. Tring Tring. A slim, tall girl, all of 24 years, trudged her way from the bed to her phone on the other side of her hostel room. The typical room with a single cot of bed, a tiny study table stacked with books of sizes that even a giant can’t get a proper grip off and a pile of clothes lying haywire had been her home past 2 months. “Hello!” Her voice was meek and tired. “Yes Rashmi. I’m better now. It’s just a bit of dehydration. I will be back to hospital tomorrow." “I really hope, I didn’t miss anything big in the anatomy class today”, she exclaimed. There was a pause in the conversation as her friend animatedly mentioned about the day’s proceeding at their House surgeon course. As Rashmi, enquired further, the girl was long lost looking at the bright blue skies and the blazing sun beneath the window. With sudden reverie she was back to the conversation.  “Oh Yes! Guilty Pleasure

I never really knew until that day nor I had thought about it that way too. This feeling was new to me. I had been thinking it as a passing cloud. An impact because of studying in an all-girls Jain school. My people also thought so in the beginning. But it has stayed with me all through these years. My family was shocked to believe it. They, being an out an out orthodox Tamil family, considered my actions as completely out of the league. They couldn't stand to watch me dancing to its tunes. My elder brothers were specifically dead against it. They mocked at me, teased me every time they saw me with it. I was undeterred. It was like my recluse during tough times; my one true solace. My energy. My power. Many a time, it was like the light at the end of the tunnel, awakening my senses and sparkling a thought or two. How could I leave it for any of them?
